Freeze Out

With all this talk of El Nino, part of me wonders just how much snow we will actually be getting this season. What I do know is that pretty much any team that has went up against the Nebraska volleyball squad this season has gotten a cold cold reception. The Cornhuskers continue to be the number 1 team in the NCAA with an impressive 23 and 0 record. Hopefully, they can put the ghosts of last year behind them and do a little better this year in the tournament.
If you don't remember, last season the ladies were pretty much undefeated before heading into the conference tournament where they took a hard loss and then continued to let that haunt them in the NCAA tournament. I have a feeling the women are not going to forget that this season, but I also think they are going to make sure they don't let it haunt them.
Some of the smaller conferences start their tournaments this weekend, then we roll into the power conference tournaments in just a few short weeks. By November 29th we will be having our selection show and then we will know what the bracket is going to look like for the NCAA tournament.
As I said, Nebraska is in the number 1 spot at 23-0 and I think they have a regular season win streak of 63 matches going right now. That's just nuts.
Pitt is in the number 2 spot, and Louisville, Florida, and SMU fill out the top five respectively.
At six we have Kentucky followed by Wisconsin, BYU, Arizona State, and Tennessee to give us the top ten.
Penn State is in number 11, with Oregon, Texas, Purdue, and Kansas right behind them. Finally, we have TCU, Texas A&M, Washington, Minnesota, and North Carolina giving us the top 20.
If you care, the rest of the top 25 consists of Indiana, Vanderbilt, Stanford, Baylor, and Colorado. I'm actually still impressed to see so many Big Ten schools being represented in the top 25. I just wish that Michigan State could work their way in there somehow. I don't really care that Michigan isn't in there. Screw the Wolverines.
The other thing I find kind of annoying is the fact that now that the college football and basketball seasons are overlapping, it is really hard to find volleyball games on the major networks. You almost have to have an ESPN Plus subscription if you want to catch any of the action.
The good news is, if you have YouTube TV, I think they just cut a deal with ESPN so that you get ESPN Plus for free with your subscription. Don't quote me on that, I haven't tried it out myself yet.
