π¦ Eagles Talk #2 β ALL ABOARD! The Eagles Train Is Leaving for Washington!
Saturday, October 31, 2026 β The Optimism Has Returned!Well, here we are again.
Saturday morning. Another Eagles game approaching. Another opportunity to convince ourselves that everything is going to be just fine!

If you read my last few Eagles Talk articles, you might be wondering how I could possibly be optimistic about this football team.
After all, we're 2β5. We've lost five straight games. Our defense just put together one of the most embarrassing performances I've ever witnessed.
And I've spent most of the week questioning the coaching staff, the players, and the future of the entire organization.
But that was Monday.
THIS IS SATURDAY!
And the Philadelphia Eagles are getting ready to head down to Landover, Maryland, to WHOOP UP ON THE WASHINGTON VIRUSES!

Yes, the Viruses. That's what we've been calling them around here ever since Washington couldn't figure out what to name its football team.
ALL ABOARD! THE EAGLES TRAIN IS LEAVING THE STATION! ππ¦
A Little SATURDAY Optimism
I have a confession. Well not really a confession, I'm and Eagles Fan, this is what we do, Damn It!!!Despite everything I've written about this team over the last few days, I genuinely believe the Eagles are going to come out fighting Sunday night.
Maybe that's the lifelong Eagles fan in me talking.
But after the absolute smackdown Dallas handed us, I expect this team to respond with some pride.
I'm not expecting miracles.
I am expecting some FIRE!
And that starts with the defensive line.
Jalen Carter β RELEASE THE MONSTER!

I've been particularly hard on Jalen Carter this week.
And for good reason.
Carter is being paid to be one of the most dominant defensive tackles in football. When he's playing at his best, opposing offensive linemen have an absolutely miserable afternoon.
That's the Carter I want to see Sunday.
Not the guy getting pushed around by double teams.
Not the guy standing upright while the offensive line gets set.
I WANT THE MONSTER BACK!
Destroy the man in front of you. Collapse the pocket. Disrupt the play. Make Jayden Daniels uncomfortable every time he drops back to pass.
Now, I've also reconsidered something I said earlier this week.
I criticized Carter for refusing to speak to the press after the Dallas loss.
But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I don't necessarily have a problem with a player wanting to wait until the next day after a terrible performance.
I would have preferred he handled it differently.
A simple, respectful acknowledgment that he'd had a rough night and wanted to talk tomorrow would have been fine with me.
After all, Carter isn't paid to be a spokesman.
HE'S PAID TO DESTROY THE MAN IN FRONT OF HIM!
And that's exactly what I hope he does in Washington.
Jordan Davis, you're included in this conversation too!
Let's see the defensive line we know is capable of dominating a game.
The Axe Man's Son Gets His Chance

Jihaad Campbell has been ruled out with hamstring and quadriceps injuries.
And I'm going to offer an opinion that some Eagles fans might disagree with.
I'm not convinced that's a huge loss.
Campbell has tremendous physical ability, but I think he's been far too indecisive, particularly against the run.
What I call happy feet.
Too much hesitation. Too much reacting. Not enough attacking.
That's why I'm interested in seeing Jeremiah Trotter Jr. get more opportunities.
He's undersized compared with some linebackers, but he has something I love.
FIGHT!
He attacks the ball carrier. He doesn't seem afraid of contact. And he's got a pretty good football pedigree!
Any longtime Eagles fan knows his father.
JEREMIAH TROTTER β THE AXE MAN!
I loved watching that man play football.
Now, I'm not suggesting his son is automatically going to become the same player.
But I like his instincts, and against a physical divisional opponent, I'll gladly take a linebacker who aggressively attacks his responsibilities.
Let's see what the kid can do!
Tanner McKee β There's Something to Build On

Now let's talk offense.
I know we only scored 21 points against Dallas, but I actually thought Tanner McKee and the offense looked reasonably good at times.
McKee showed some poise, made some good throws, and helped put together a few sustained drives.
Of course, there's an important qualification.
The Cowboys defense was among the league's worst heading into that game.

So perhaps we shouldn't get carried away!
But McKee is still getting valuable experience, and I think there's reason to be encouraged.
What I really want to see is Sean Mannion give him some help.
Quick passes. Good protection schemes. A reliable outlet against the blitz.
And for heaven's sake, when the defense starts sending extra rushers, have an answer ready!
We've spent enough time watching free rushers come screaming toward our quarterback.
I'd love to see McKee make Washington pay for getting aggressive.
Who's Going to Carry the Football?

This could be one of the biggest questions heading into Sunday.
The Eagles' running back room has been absolutely battered by injuries.
Saquon Barkley missed practice Wednesday and Thursday with hamstring and back problems, but he returned Friday and is expected to be available Sunday.
That's encouraging!
But how healthy is he really?
I'm not convinced we'll see the Saquon Barkley we're accustomed to watching.
And with Dameon Pierce, Tank Bigsby, and Will Shipley on injured reserve, there aren't many options behind him.
Jaydon Blue and Elijah Mitchell could become important contributors.

I hope the coaching staff has a sensible plan, because asking a hurting Barkley to carry the entire rushing attack doesn't strike me as a particularly good idea.
Meanwhile, DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks are both out.
So McKee may have to rely on some Lemon and Cooper at receiver.
This is where a good offensive coordinator earns his paycheck.
Find ways to move the chains. Stay out of obvious passing situations. Give the quarterback manageable decisions.
And please, Sean, let's try putting together TWO GOOD HALVES OF FOOTBALL!
I don't think that's asking too much.
A Little Help From the Viruses?

Washington has injury problems of its own.
Defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw has been ruled out, and Daron Payne and Jer'Zhan Newton are questionable.
That's a lot of uncertainty in the middle of their defensive front.
If the Eagles can get the running game going, maybe McKee won't have to throw his way out of trouble all evening.
Washington also has offensive-line injuries, and Terry McLaurin is on injured reserve.
Which means there's an opportunity for our defensive front to make some noise.
The question is whether Carter, Davis, and company are ready to take advantage.
I certainly hope so.
Sunday Night at Molly's House!
Now here's something I haven't talked about much in Eagles Talk.Since 2023, a bunch of us have been getting together at my sister Molly's house to watch the Eagles.
It's become one of my favorite traditions.
There's Molly, her boyfriend Gary, our other friend Gary, Les, Bob, and me.
And depending on the week, a few other people might wander in.
For the early games, everybody brings something for lunch or dinner, and we make an afternoon of it.
There's food, football, laughter, and an awful lot of yelling at the television!

I suppose I should admit that I'm probably one of the loudest.
Although Bob gives me some pretty stiff competition.
And Molly?
Oh, she's right there yelling with us!
It's a great time.
You know, when I was a kid, my friends and I used to play backyard football every Sunday before the Eagles came on.
We'd beat each other up for a couple of hours, then head inside to watch the Birds.
That was more than 40 years ago.
And somehow, after all this time, I'm still spending Sundays surrounded by friends and family, watching the Philadelphia Eagles.
The only difference is that these days I'm much more likely to hurt myself getting out of the recliner than making a tackle!
Well, maybe not quite. π
So Sunday night, I'll climb into my truck, head over to Molly's, and arrive with my usual supplies.
A six-pack of Happy Dad and a truckload of optimism!
And hopefully, I'll leave with a victory.
My Prediction

I'm not putting any big money on this game.
There are too many injuries, too many unanswered questions, and too many things that could go wrong.
But something tells me the Eagles are going to come out angry.
I think the defensive line has something to prove.
I think McKee is getting more comfortable.
And I think the humiliation against Dallas just might light a fire under this football team.
Will that be enough?
We'll find out Sunday night.
But I'm going into this one believing that the Birds still have some fight left.
And if they don't?
Well, there are still plenty more Sundays to complain about them!
One Last Thingβ¦
I absolutely hate night games.
Give me a 1 PM or 4:20 PM kickoff any Sunday.
There's something about spending an entire day waiting for the Eagles to play that drives me nuts.
And when the game ends, it's way past bedtime!
But I'll be there.
Molly will be there.
Both Garys, Les, and Bob will probably be there too.
And we'll all be ready for another chapter in this ridiculous, wonderful, frustrating experience we call being Philadelphia Eagles fans.
ENOUGH OF LAST MONDAY!
ALL ABOARD THE EAGLES TRAIN!
