One thing I love about football is that you can never really predict everything. Sometimes, a player you least expect becomes the person everyone is talking about after a match. That is one of the things that makes this game so interesting to me.

When I saw what Jordan Henderson did in Chelsea's 5-1 victory over Bournemouth, I could not help but appreciate his performance. At 36 years and 115 days old, the man scored two goals and provided an assist. Honestly, that is not something you see every day, especially from a player who has spent so many years playing at the highest level.
What makes it even more interesting is the record he has broken at Chelsea. Henderson is now the oldest player in the club's history to be directly involved in three or more goals in a single Premier League match. According to Opta, the last player older than him to achieve a similar feat in the league was Cristiano Ronaldo, back in April 2022.
For me, this is a good reminder that experience still counts for something in football.
These days, there is so much attention on young players, and I understand why. Everyone wants to discover the next big talent and watch them grow into world-class players. But sometimes, I feel we are too quick to forget what older players can still bring to a team.
At 36, Henderson is not getting any younger. Nobody expects him to run around the pitch like a 20-year-old for the entire match. But football is not always about speed and energy. Sometimes, it is about knowing where to be, making the right decisions, and using your experience to make things happen.
And that is why I appreciate performances like this one.
Of course, I am not going to say one brilliant performance means Henderson will keep producing these numbers every week. We all know football is unpredictable. However, he deserves his credit for what he has done, and I think it would be unfair to overlook such an achievement simply because of his age.
Chelsea's 5-1 win was already a great result, but Henderson giving the fans three goal contributions at his age makes the occasion even more memorable.
I personally enjoy seeing experienced players prove that they still have something to offer. It reminds me that writing someone off because of age does not always tell the full story.
But what do you think? Are we paying enough attention to experienced players in today's football, or are we too busy celebrating young talents?
I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Let's talk football! ⚽
