Beyond Football: The Tragic Death of Jesús de Miguel and the Need to Put Player Safety First 💔🕊️

The football world has been thrown into sadness following the tragic death of Jesús de Miguel, a 30-year-old striker who played for Spanish second-division club CD Tenerife. Honestly, this is the kind of news nobody wants to hear, especially when it involves someone who went out to play the game he loves and never got the chance to return home back to his family.

According to reports, Jesús suffered a cardiac arrest following a collision with the opposing goalkeeper, Jesús Owono, during their match against FC Andorra. Despite receiving medical attention on the pitch and being rushed to the hospital, he sadly passed away on Tuesday.
My heart goes out to his family, friends, teammates and everyone connected to CD Tenerife. Losing someone at such a young age is painful, and I can only imagine what his loved ones are currently going through right now. May God give them the strength to overcome this difficult moment. Rest in peace, Jesús de Miguel. 🕊️
However, beyond sending condolences, I think this incident should make football authorities sit down and have a serious discussion about player safety.
I understand that goalkeepers sometimes need to leave their penalty areas to clear dangerous balls, and it is part of the modern game. But should there be more restrictions on how they approach such situations? Perhaps football governing bodies, including FIFA and UEFA, need to review the existing rules and consider additional safety measures to reduce dangerous collisions.
I am not saying goalkeepers should completely stop moving outside their boxes, because that could affect how football is played. But there should be stronger consideration for the safety of outfield players and goalkeepers whenever these situations occur.
Football is beautiful, but no match, trophy or three points is worth a human life. We cannot bring Jesús back, but hopefully, lessons can be learned from this tragedy to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Sometimes we get carried away by the excitement of football and forget that the people on that pitch are human beings with families waiting for them at home.
Rest in peace, Jesús de Miguel. Football has lost one of its own. 💔
