I Thought Barcelona Would Win Easily, But Mourinho And Real Madrid Had Other Plans!

I honestly don't see this coming. Before the El Clásico between Barcelona and Real Madrid, I expected Barcelona to win comfortably, especially considering how things had gone in recent meetings between these two Spanish giants. Barcelona had enjoyed the upper hand in several of their previous encounters, so I thought another victory for them was very possible.

However, football has a way of reminding us that the past doesn't always determine what happens next just like what happened between my darling Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur few days ago.
Real Madrid came into this game looking prepared, confident, and ready to fight for every ball. Their 2-1 victory at Camp Nou was not just about getting three points; but it was also about showing that the right tactical approach can make a huge difference in a match of this magnitude.
Mourinho surely deserves credit for this performance and so is the players.
One thing I appreciated was how Real Madrid approached the game. Rather than allowing Barcelona to dictate everything, Madrid looked ready to challenge them, press at the right moments, and take advantage of their weaknesses. Kylian Mbappé stepped up with two goals, but I believe the team's overall organisation deserves just as much attention.
When a team faces Barcelona, it is easy to become overwhelmed by their possession and attacking movements. Madrid showed that having less of the ball does not necessarily mean you are losing control of the game. Sometimes, knowing when to press, when to defend, and when to attack is more important than simply keeping possession.
I was also impressed by the courage Madrid showed in playing out from the back. That approach can be risky against a team that presses aggressively, but Mourinho's players were willing to take responsibility rather than simply clearing the ball whenever they came under pressure.
This is probably why Toni Kroos praised Mourinho's tactical approach after the match. I can understand his reaction because Madrid looked like a team that had studied Barcelona carefully and arrived with a clear plan.
Of course, Barcelona should not be written off because of one defeat. They remain a dangerous team, and they will have opportunities to respond. However, this match exposed the importance of having a plan B when the usual style of play is not working.
For me, the biggest lesson from this El Clásico is that reputation alone cannot alway win football matches. Barcelona may have enjoyed better results in recent meetings, but Madrid came prepared to change that story.
As a football fan, I love seeing matches like this because they remind us why football is unpredictable. Before kick-off, many people might have expected Barcelona to continue their recent dominance, but Mourinho and his players had different ideas.
Sometimes, the team that surprises everyone is simply the team that prepares better.
Now, I'm curious to see whether Real Madrid can build on this victory and maintain their momentum in the title race. One thing is certain: and that's the fact that this El Clásico has given football fans plenty to discuss!
