Liverpool Got the Job Done, but Brighton Will Regret Their Missed Chances

As a football lover, I think Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Brighton at Anfield was an interesting game because the result doesn't tell the whole story of what happened on the pitch. Liverpool got the three points, but Brighton had their moments and could have made things much more difficult for the home team.

One thing I noticed was how quickly Liverpool took advantage of Brighton's mistakes. Pascal Groß's own goal in the 17th minute gave Liverpool the lead, and Alexander Isak doubled it just four minutes later with assist from Barcola. Those two goals changed the direction of the game, and Liverpool suddenly had the comfort of a two-goal advantage.
For me, Isak's goal was particularly important. Scoring in three consecutive Premier League appearances is a good sign for a striker, especially when his team needs someone who can turn chances into goals. His finish showed the importance of having a clinical forward who knows what to do when the opportunity comes.
I also think Bradley Barcola deserves credit for his contribution to the second goal. His work to win possession and drive forward before picking out Isak was excellent. This is the kind of attacking contribution that can make a real difference in a team.
However, what surprised me most was Brighton's inability to turn their possession into goals. They had around 64 per cent of the ball, compared with Liverpool's 35.6 per cent, yet they managed only one shot on target. That statistic tells an important story about the difference between controlling possession and actually threatening your opponent.
Brighton had opportunities to change the game, particularly Yasin Ayari's early chance before Liverpool scored. Had he taken it, we might have been discussing a completely different result. His later effort hitting the post also showed that Brighton were capable of creating danger.
On the other hand, I believe Liverpool deserve credit for their defensive discipline. They did not need to dominate possession to win. They took their opportunities, defended their box well, and made life difficult for Brighton when it mattered most.
Under Andoni Iraola, Liverpool have now recorded four consecutive wins in all competitions. That is encouraging progress, and I am beginning to see signs of a team becoming more comfortable with its manager's approach. There is still work to do, but winning matches while developing a clear identity is always a positive sign.
My only concern for Liverpool is Florian Wirtz's ankle issue. Hopefully, it is not serious because he is an important player in their attacking setup.
Overall, this was a good result for Liverpool, but Brighton should take lessons from it. Football is not just about having the ball; but it is about making your possession count.
